Heavy rains: East Godavari district to shift 16 lakh tonnes of paddy from fields to rice mills


To safeguard harvested paddy from rain damage, East Godavari’s administration has launched a massive drive to shift over 16 lakh tonnes to rice mills. With 2.5 lakh tonnes already procured, officials are preparing to exceed rabi 2025 targets. Collector P. Prasanthi urged vigilance along the Godavari river, while local bodies were told to remove hoardings amid heavy winds.

As of Sunday (May 4), over 2.5 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured across the district. In a meeting with officials to review the preparedness to tackle the rains, East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi said they are preparing to procure paddy beyond the target for the rabi season 2025 in the wake of the sudden rains over the past few days.
All gram panchayats and panchayat secretariats have been told to keep an eye on the Godavari river, given the heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation has been directed to remove heavy advertisement hoardings in the wake of heavy winds over the past few days.
