Supply of P20/kilo rice at Kadiwa stores enough till December: official

The Philippines’ P20-per-kilo rice program is secured until December 2025, according to the NFA. Targeting vulnerable groups, each family can buy up to 30 kilos monthly from Kadiwa stores. With 50 sacks per site, demand remains strong. The government plans to expand access nationwide and ensure quality through regular inspections and NFA buffer stock support.

MANILA — The supply of P20 per kilo rice in Kadiwa stores is enough until the end of the year, the National Food Authority said Monday.

NFA administrator Larry Lacson said the supply of the low-cost rice at Kadiwa stores would last until December 2025 for vulnerable sectors such as indigents, senior citizens, solo parents, and persons with disabilities

Each family can purchase a maximum of 30 kilos of rice per month, said Lacson.

He told TeleRadyo Serbisyo that the affordable rice undergoes inspection and quality control before being released to the public.

He noted that the quality of rice has a “natural tendency” to deteriorate over time, so it should be consumed immediately.

Agriculture Assistant Secretary Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra last week said the P20 rice is being sold at 32 Kadiwa stores in Metro Manila and other areas like Rizal and Cebu.

It will soon be available in more areas such as Bohol, Southern Leyte, and Siquijor, the official said.

Each Kadiwa center was allocated 50 sacks of rice, which are sold after two to three store hours, she said.

The department plans to build a hub to make supplies more available at each site.

She said that the Department of Agriculture has a sufficient supply for the P20 Rice Program through the NFA’s buffer stock.
