Kutch is emerging as world’s largest hub for green energy: PM Modi


Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects worth over ₹53,400 crore in Bhuj, Gujarat, covering infrastructure, energy, and tourism. Key highlights include the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, a green hydrogen plant, and major solar and transmission initiatives. Modi emphasized Kutch’s transformation into a global green energy hub and praised local resilience and inclusive energy access.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects totalling more than ₹53,400 crore in Bhuj, Gujarat, spanning key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and tourism.
Among the major initiatives are power sector projects including transmission infrastructure to evacuate renewable energy from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, an ultra-supercritical thermal power unit at Tapi, and the expansion of the overall transmission network. The launch also covered port development at Kandla, along with various road, solar, and water projects undertaken by the Government of Gujarat.
Addressing the public, the Prime Minister hailed Kutch as a symbol of resilience and transformation, recalling the region’s journey from the devastation of the 2001 earthquake to becoming a centre for trade, tourism, and clean energy. He credited the remarkable progress to the enduring spirit of the people and sustained developmental efforts over the years.
“Kutch is emerging as the world’s largest hub for green energy”, highlighted PM Modi, stressing on the transformative potential of green hydrogen, describing it as the fuel of the future. He remarked that cars, buses, and streetlights will soon be powered by green hydrogen, revolutionizing India’s energy landscape. Shri Modi noted that Kandla is one of the three designated green hydrogen hubs in the country. He announced the foundation stone-laying for a new green hydrogen plant in Kutch, underscoring that the technology used in this facility is entirely “Made in India.” Furthermore, Shri Modi stressed Kutch’s central role in India’s solar revolution, pointing out that one of the world’s largest solar power projects is being developed in the region. With the establishment of the Khavda complex, Kutch has firmly positioned itself on the global energy map, he added.
The Prime Minister also underlined the significance of the massive solar energy project coming up in Khavda, which is set to be among the largest globally and will play a vital role in powering Gujarat while positioning Kutch on the international energy map.
Highlighting the government’s focus on inclusive energy access, PM Modi spoke about the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which lakhs of households in Gujarat are benefiting through reduced electricity bills, reflecting the Centre’s commitment to energy affordability at the grassroots level.
