Sub-committee asks Centre to expedite movement of grains


A four-member Punjab Cabinet sub-committee has urged the Centre to ensure the movement of at least 12 lakh tonnes of rice per month to create storage space ahead of the upcoming paddy harvest. The panel, formed to ensure smooth procurement, held its first meeting in Chandigarh to address potential logistical and storage challenges for the season.
A four-member Cabinet sub-committee, set up by the state government to ensure timely paddy procurement, demanded that the Centre should ensure movement of at least 12 lakh tonne of rice per month so that space can be created for the crop by this season.
The committee was created to prepare for smooth procurement in the paddy harvesting season. The committee comprising Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Food and Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal and Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar held its first meeting in Chandigarh on Tuesday to address the issues that could create problems for the state government.
