Romania forecasts even more record wheat harvest in MY 2025/26

Argentina’s agricultural exports hit a record 64.5 million tonnes in the first half of 2025, with June alone contributing 23.53 million tonnes ahead of a July 1 export tax hike. Export revenues surged 87% year-on-year to \$3.7 billion. Post-tax, trade has slowed. The government raised duties on soy and corn but extended relief for wheat to encourage its cultivation.
In the MY 2025/26, Romanian farmers could harvest between 13.3 and 14 mln tons of wheat, a record, César Gheorghe, founder of AGRIColumn, said at the Global Grain MENA conference in Cairo (2-3 July).
This forecast significantly exceeds the European Commission’s estimate of 10.4 mln tons. For comparison, in 2024, Romania’s wheat harvest amounted to 9.29 mln tons, which is 3.5% less than the previous year.
The expected record could strengthen Romania’s position as an important supplier of wheat in the Black Sea region.
As a reminder, following an assessment of the crop situation, Argus Media in mid-June forecast Romania’s largest wheat harvest since 1997 — 12.2 mln tons. Favorable weather conditions, an expansion of the sown area and increased yields are key factors in this growth. Despite the delay in the harvest due to the cold spring, warm and dry weather is helping the grain ripen, they said in a statement.
