Philippines : Farmers encouraged to sell their palay to NFA

The National Food Authority (NFA) is urging RSBSA-registered farmers in Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Ifugao, and Mountain Province to sell palay directly to NFA. The agency is offering P23/kg for clean and dry palay, and P17/kg for wet palay, aiming to boost farmer income and avoid exploitation by middlemen.
LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA)—The National Food Authority (NFA) is encouraging rice farmers who are registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) to take advantage of its increased buying price for palay (unmilled rice).
NFA Nueva Vizcaya Warehouse Supervisor Peter Bumolyad said that the agency is currently purchasing clean and dry palay at P23.00 per kilogram, and wet or fresh palay at P17.00 per kilogram.
“We encourage RSBSA-registered individual farmers, including farmer organizations, to sell their palay directly to the NFA to earn better profits,”he said.
Bumolyad also advised farmers to avoid being exploited by unscrupulous traders who may use them to profit from selling to the NFA. He urged farmers to transact directly with the agency to ensure they fully benefit from the increased buying price.
The NFA’s price adjustment is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to boost farmers’ incomes through fair and just pricing for their agricultural produce.
He explained that individual farmers are required to present either an RSBSA ID or a certification from the Municipal Agriculture Office of the local government unit (LGU), confirming that they are legitimate farmers. The certification must also indicate the location, farm area, and average yield.
Farmer organizations must submit an updated master passbook and a copy of their certificate of registration issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Cooperative Development Authority, or other government agencies authorized to certify the organization’s legitimacy.
