Bihar government plans to revive Sakari and Raiyam sugar mills


Bihar plans to revive Sakari and Raiyam sugar mills and has filed for e-auction of Sasamusa Sugar Mill. To boost the sugar industry, the state offers up to Rs 15 crore in capital investment subsidies. The initiative aims to create jobs and increase farmers’ incomes through better procurement.
In a move aimed at boosting Bihar’s sugar industry, the state government is pushing ahead with plans to revive the Sakari and Raiyam sugar mills of Bihar State Sugar Corporation Ltd. This information was shared in the Lok Sabha by Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, while responding to unstarred questions regarding sugar mills in Bihar.
She also informed the House that the state government has filed a petition in the NCLT, Kolkata Bench, for the e-auction of Sasamusa Sugar Mill (in liquidation).
The minister said, “The State Government is planning to revive two closed sugar mills Sakari and Raiyam of Bihar State Sugar Corporation Ltd. as well as State Government has filed a petition in NCLT, Kolkata Bench for e-auction of Sasamusa Sugar Mill (in liquidation).”
The Bihar government in order to encourage setting up of new sugar mill or expansion of existing sugar mill, declared an incentive policy, 2014, in which Grant of 20% Subsidy on Capital Investment (Plant and Machinery) to a maximum of Rs. 15 Crores, whichever is less are given to sugar mills.
Bihar aims to ensure job creation and enhance farmers’ incomes through improved procurement and processing facilities.
