France completes wheat and barley harvest


As of August 4, France had harvested 94% of winter wheat and 97% of winter barley, well ahead of last year’s pace and the five-year average, FranceAgriMer reports. Corn development is also ahead, with 5% of crops at wax ripeness, compared to 1% last year and 3% on average.
According to the state agency FranceAgriMer, by August 4, 94% of the area under winter wheat and 97% of the area under winter barley had been threshed in France. A year earlier, the wheat harvest was completed on 85% of the area, barley – on 72%. The pace of wheat harvesting is 8 days ahead of the five-year average, barley – 9 days.
Corn crops are developing faster than usual. By August 4, 5% of crops were in the wax ripeness phase (1% on the same date a year ago and 3% on average over the past five years).
