USDA predicts increased corn production, record high corn yields

U.S. corn production is projected at 16.7 billion bushels in 2025, up 13% from last year, according to the USDA’s August Crop Production report. Average yield is forecast at a record 188.8 bushels per acre. Planted area stands at 97.3 million acres, with 73% of the crop rated good or excellent.

U.S. corn production is expected to reach 16.7 billion bushels this year, up 13% when compared to last year, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service’s latest monthly Crop Production report, released Aug. 12.

The average corn yield is forecast at a record high 188.8 bushels per acre, up 9.5 bushels from last year. The USDA is forecasting record high yields in Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin. As of Aug. 3, 73% of this year’s corn crop was reported in good or excellent condition, 6 percentage points above the same time last year. 

Total planted area is estimated at 97.3 million acres, up 2% when compared to the USDA’s previous estimate and up 7% when compared to last year. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 88.7 million acres, also up 2% when compared to the previous forecast and up 7% when compared to last year.
