Meerut: Mills asked to make speedy payment

Meerut Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod has ordered timely sugarcane payments for farmers in the 2024–25 crushing season and completion of mill repairs before operations start. He directed strict checks on weighbridges to prevent under-weighing, with legal verification due by October 15. Negligent officials will face action.

Meerut: Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod has instructed officials to ensure that farmers receive their pending sugarcane payments for the 2024–25 crushing season without delay. He also directed that repairs at sugar mills be completed before the upcoming season and that strict checks be carried out on weighbridges and measuring equipment to prevent under-weighing of cane. Officials found negligent in this process will face action, he warned, reports Amar Ujala.

The commissioner issued these directions on Tuesday while reviewing the Sugarcane Development Department’s work at a meeting held in his office. He told representatives of sugar mills that all purchase centres must be set up by October 10 and asked officials to take firm steps against under-weighing. The Department of Legal Metrology has been instructed to complete stamping and verification of weighbridges and standard weights by October 15.

He also reviewed the condition of vehicles used for sugarcane transport and the overall transport arrangements for the upcoming season.
