2025-26 season: 21 sugar mills begin sugarcane crushing operations in Uttar Pradesh

Sugarcane crushing for 2025-26 has begun in Uttar Pradesh, with 21 mills starting operations and 32 more set to begin soon. A total of 53 mills have issued procurement indents. The Cane Commissioner directed mills to ensure timely payment of dues, helping clear fields early for wheat sowing and supporting farmers.

Lucknow: The sugarcane crushing season for 2025-26 has officially commenced in Uttar Pradesh, with 21 sugar mills starting operations across the state. A total of 53 sugar mills across the state have already issued indents for sugarcane procurement.

According to the State Cane Commissioner, crushing operations have commenced at 21 sugar mills, including one in the cooperative sector and 20 in the private sector. Among the operational mills, five out of 19 mills in the Saharanpur region, eight out of 16 in the Meerut region, two out of 23 in the Moradabad region, and six out of 19 in the Lucknow region have started crushing.

Additionally, 32 other mills have completed all formalities for initiating operations and have issued indents for sugarcane purchase. These mills are expected to begin crushing within the next few days. The remaining 69 mills will also become operational shortly.

The Cane Commissioner further stated that instructions have been issued to all sugar mills to ensure timely payment of sugarcane dues for the 2025–26 season in accordance with regulations. Payments for the current crushing season have already begun. Timely operation of sugar mills will allow fields to be cleared for wheat sowing, providing convenience to farmers.
