KARNATAKA : Notify uniform price for sugarcane supplied to factories across State, KRRS tells govt.

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha leader Chamarasa Malipatil has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to mandate a uniform sugarcane price of ₹3,300 per tonne for factories in Bidar and Kalaburagi, matching the rate set in Bagalkot. He accused mills of manipulating recovery data and warned of intensified protests if uniform pricing is not enforced.

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) honorary president Chamarasa Malipatil has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to intervene and ensure that all sugar factories in Bidar and Kalaburagi districts pay a uniform price of ₹3,300 per tonne of sugarcane, similar to the rate recently fixed for factories in Bagalkot district.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Malipatil said the State government must issue an order making the uniform price applicable to all sugar factories across Karnataka.

“The benefit should not be limited to one region. Sugarcane growers across the State deserve the same price,” he said and urged the Chief Minister and Minister for Sugars Shivanand Patil to immediately notify the uniform price.

He said that several sugar factories are manipulating sugar recovery data to reduce payments to farmers.

“The same sugarcane, when crushed in factories in Maharashtra, shows higher recovery rate. But when crushed in sugar factories in Karnataka, the recovery rate falls sharply. This is a deliberate attempt to show false recovery rate and cheat farmers,” he added.

Mr. Malipatil also said that the recent incidents of sugarcane-laden vehicles being set on fire in Mudhol taluk of Bagalkot district were part of a larger conspiracy by sugar factory owners.

“Farmers were protesting peacefully. Suddenly, the sugarcane-filled tractors were set on fire and now, they are trying to blame the farmers. No farmer will set fire to his own crop. This is nothing but a conspiracy by the factory management,” he said.

He warned that the KRRS will intensify its agitation if the State government fails to issue an order to sugar factories for paying the uniform price to all sugarcane growers and protect the interests of farmers.
