Punjab government hikes sugarcane price by Rs 15 per quintal

Punjab has raised the sugarcane SAP by ₹15 to ₹416 per quintal, surpassing Haryana’s rate of ₹415. Announced by CM Bhagwant Mann at a new Dinanagar sugar mill, the hike—now the highest in India—aims to boost farmer incomes and encourage sugarcane cultivation ahead of the crushing season.

In a significant move aimed at providing relief to the farmers, the Punjab government has decided to increase the procurement price of sugarcane (Sugarcane SAP) by Rs. 15 per quintal.

According to the new rates, the price of sugarcane in Punjab will now be Rs. 416 per quintal, a rise from the previous year’s rate of Rs. 401.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made this announcement while officiating the inauguration of a new sugar mill in Dinanagar. The Haryana government recently set this year’s sugarcane rate at Rs. 415 per quintal.

By fixing the rate at Rs.416, exactly Rs. 1 higher than Haryana, Punjab has signaled its intent to provide superior support to its farmers compared to its neighbor.

Chief Minister Mann claimed that the rate fixed by Punjab is currently the highest in the country. The announcement is being viewed as a positive message for farmers just ahead of the commencement of the sugarcane crushing season.

Government officials expect that this price hike will improve the income of sugarcane growers and further encourage sugarcane cultivation within the state.
