Union Minister Nitin Gadkari says 20% ethanol blending reduces India’s CO2 emissions by 736 lakh tonnes

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said 20% ethanol blending in petrol has cut India’s CO₂ emissions by 736 lakh metric tonnes. He told Lok Sabha ethanol is a green fuel that reduces pollution and boosts farmer income, adding India must curb its ₹22 lakh crore fossil fuel import bill to achieve developed nation status.

Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that India’s carbon dioxide emission has been reduced by 736 lakh metric tonnes due to the use of 20 per cent Ethanol blending in Petrol.

Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour in Lok Sabha today, Mr Gadakari said, Ethanol is a green fuel, and it reduces pollution and helps to increase the income of farmers. He said, currently, India is importing around 22 lakh crore rupees worth of fossil fuels annually. He said India needs to reduce its import bill on fossil fuel sources to become a developed nation.
