Ukrainian wheat exports focused on Africa and the Middle East

Wheat exports from Ukraine in December reached 335.5 thousand tons, with North Africa and the Middle East accounting for 86% of shipments. Asia received 3.5%, and Europe only 1.7%. Export prices fell due to weak demand and port inefficiencies, with food wheat dropping to $212/ton and feed wheat to $206/ton.

Wheat exports from Ukraine in December amounted to 335.5 thousand tons and were sharply concentrated in the direction of North Africa and the Middle East, which together account for about 86% of all exports.

This was reported by analysts at Spike Brokers in Telegram.

“Asian destinations formed only 3.5% of exports. The share of Europe is minimal — 1.7%. In general, the structure of December wheat exports demonstrates high regional concentration and dependence on demand from North Africa and MENA countries,” the experts note.

Wheat prices in the direction of ports and exports continued to decline last week. Weak external demand and low efficiency of port infrastructure reduce trading activity in this direction, they explain.

“The spot price index for food wheat (11.5% protein) delivered via SPT port decreased by $3 to $212, and feed wheat lost $3, falling to $206,” the analysts summarize.
