Pune: The Natural Group of Industries has announced the country’s largest project for sugarcane farming based on artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative will be formally launched on Sunday (February 4) by Prataprao Pawar, trustee of the Agriculture Development Trust (ADT), Baramati, and chairman of the Sakal Media Group, reported Agrowan.
The project will be inaugurated at 11 am on Sunday at Unit No. 1 of Natural Sugar and Allied Industries Limited, located at Sainagar Ranjani in Kalamb tehsil of Dharashiv district. The event will be held under the chairmanship of B.B. Thombare, chairman of the Natural Group. Rajendra Pawar, chairman of ADT, Nilesh Nalawade, chief executive of ADT, District Collector Kirti Kiran Pujar, and Sambhaji Kadu Patil, director general of the Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), are expected to attend the programme.
The project is being implemented jointly by Natural Sugar, the Agriculture Development Trust, Baramati, the Vasantdada Sugar Institute and the West Indian Sugar Association (WISMA), and has generated considerable interest within the sugar sector.
To ensure systematic implementation of AI technology under the project, a joint war room has been set up by the Baramati Krushi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and VSI. Farmers will receive guidance on sugarcane planting, irrigation and fertiliser management, crop protection, and weather-based planning. Farmers who perform well under the project will also be rewarded by Natural Sugar.
This initiative makes Natural Sugar the first sugar factory in the country to undertake integrated planning for sugarcane cultivation using artificial intelligence technology.
