Season 2025–26: Sugar output reaches 981.58 lakh quintals in Maharashtra; 154 sugar mills close operations
Maharashtra’s 2025–26 sugarcane crushing season is nearing completion, with 154 of 210 sugar mills already shut. The state has produced 981.58 lakh quintals of sugar after crushing over 1036 LMT of cane, with an average recovery rate of 9.47%. Kolhapur division led production and recovery before closing operations.
Sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra for the 2025–26 season is in its final stage, with 154 out of 210 sugar mills having closed operations. As per the latest figures released by the Commissionerate, sugar production in the state reached 981.58 lakh quintals as of March 12, 2026.
A total of 210 mills have so far crushed 1036.96 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, producing 981.58 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 9.47%.
Of the 210 mills, 103 belong to the cooperative sector, while 107 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to lead in both sugar output and recovery rate, and all the mills in the Kolhapur division have closed crushing operations.
Kolhapur: Out of 39 mills in the division, all have closed operations. The mills crushed 209.86 LMT of cane, achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 11.01% and producing 231.07 lakh quintals of sugar.
Pune: In the Pune division, 22 out of 32 sugar mills have stopped operations. The mills crushed 223.94 LMT of cane at a recovery rate of 9.84%, resulting in 220.34 lakh quintals of sugar.
Solapur: Of the 49 mills in the division, 37 have stopped operations. These mills crushed 219.82 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 8.59%.
During the same period in the previous season, 199 mills had begun operations, crushing 841.88 LMT of cane with an average recovery rate of 9.43%. A total of 167 sugar mills had closed operations during the same period last season.
