Uttar Pradesh: Baghpat sugar mill to double crushing capacity after expansion nod

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved expansion of the Kisan Cooperative Sugar Mill in Baghpat, doubling its crushing capacity from 2,500 to 5,000 tonnes per day. The upgrade with modern technology aims to improve efficiency, increase cane procurement, and support better income and faster payments for local sugarcane farmers.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a plan to expand the Kisan Cooperative Sugar Mill in Baghpat, a move aimed at significantly increasing its crushing capacity and improving efficiency, The Times of India reported.

The decision was taken by the state cabinet on Monday, allowing the mill to double its crushing capacity from 2,500 tonnes per day to 5,000 tonnes per day. The proposal was submitted by the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Sugar Mills Federation Limited, which pointed out that the current facility is running on old machinery and needs an upgrade.

Officials said the expansion will include the use of improved technology, which is expected to reduce operational issues and help the mill function more smoothly. The upgrade is also aimed at making the plant more reliable and better suited to current production needs.

The move is likely to benefit sugarcane farmers in the Baghpat area. With higher processing capacity, the mill will be able to purchase more cane, ensure quicker payments, and support better earnings for farmers.

Authorities added that the project is part of a wider effort by the state to upgrade older sugar mills and improve output across the sector, with a focus on strengthening the rural economy.
