Turkey to increase imports of Kazakh grain
Kazakhstan and Turkey have agreed to expand agricultural trade and boost Kazakh grain exports to Turkey through a new bilateral roadmap. The partnership also includes major Turkish investments in grain processing and greenhouse projects, alongside efforts to strengthen logistics and the Caspian Sea Middle Corridor trade route.
Turkey and Kazakhstan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in agricultural trade and increase exports of Kazakh grain to the Turkish market. The agreement was reached during talks in Astana between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to Tokayev, the two countries will soon adopt a joint roadmap aimed at expanding bilateral trade in agricultural products. He noted that the initiative is expected to support higher exports of grain crops from Kazakhstan.
The countries are also moving forward with several agricultural investment projects. Turkish company Tiryaki Agro plans to build a deep grain-processing plant in Astana worth $320 million, with annual processing capacity of 240,000 tons of wheat and 80,000 tons of peas.
In addition, Alarko Holding will invest $650 million in the construction of a greenhouse complex in Shymkent. Kazakhstan also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Turkey in modern agricultural technologies.
The two sides further agreed to develop logistics routes and enhance the potential of the Middle Corridor through the Caspian Sea, which is increasingly viewed as a modern version of the Silk Road linking Central Asia with the Mediterranean region.
