Poland expands wheat exports to the US
U.S. importers increased purchases of Polish milling wheat due to high domestic wheat prices. Recent deals ranged between 120,000 and 350,000 tonnes for June–July delivery. Polish wheat prices at $245–254/tonne remain significantly cheaper than U.S. wheat priced at $305–323/tonne FOB.
U.S. importers have recently increased purchases of milling wheat from Poland amid rising domestic grain prices. According to European traders, American buyers have been actively securing new contracts in recent weeks, driven by the high cost of wheat in the United States.
Market participants estimate that recent deals range between 120,000 and 200,000 metric tonnes, while some traders suggest volumes could reach up to 350,000 tonnes. The shipments mainly involve 2025 crop wheat, which is expected to be delivered in June–July to flour mills on the U.S. East Coast.
Analysts say the key factor behind the surge in imports is the significantly higher price of U.S. wheat. Hard red winter wheat in U.S. Gulf ports is currently quoted between $305 and $323 per tonne FOB, depending on Chicago futures and exchange rate fluctuations.
In contrast, wheat with 12.5% protein content in the Baltic region is priced much lower, at around $245–$254 per tonne. This price gap makes Polish wheat an attractive alternative for U.S. buyers, despite longer transportation routes and logistics costs.
Traders expect that this trend may continue in the coming weeks, as U.S. companies previously also purchased Polish new-crop wheat with shipments scheduled for September–November 2026. The growing price pressure in the domestic market could further accelerate imports from Europe.
