Bihar sugar mills clear over 99% of cane dues for 2025-26 season

Bihar sugar mills paid over 99% of sugarcane dues for the 2025-26 crushing season, disbursing Rs. 2,11,481.43 crore out of Rs. 2,13,783.58 crore owed to farmers. Mills procured 572.66 lakh quintals of cane, while authorities closely monitored payments to prevent delays.

Patna: Sugar mills in Bihar have paid more than 99 percent of the dues owed to sugarcane farmers for the 2025-26 crushing season, according to the state’s Sugarcane Industry Department.

The department said that 10 operational sugar mills in the state procured a total of 572.66 lakh quintals of sugarcane from farmers up to April 9 this year, Patna Press reported.

The total amount payable to farmers for the purchased sugarcane was Rs. 2,13,783.58 crore. Out of this, mills have already disbursed Rs. 2,11,481.43 crore, accounting for 99.14 percent of the total cane payments.

Officials stated that the department had directed all sugar mills to ensure timely payments to farmers from the start of cane procurement operations. To avoid delays, the payment process was closely monitored throughout the crushing season.

According to the department, cooperation from sugar mill operators helped accelerate the payment process, leading to the settlement of the vast majority of farmers’ dues.

The department said efforts are continuing to clear the remaining outstanding payments and ensure that all farmers receive the balance amount at the earliest.
