European Commission has lowered the forecast for the EU grain harvest in the new season and increased it for oilseeds

European Commission lowered its 2026/27 EU wheat production forecast to 126.9 million tonnes and reduced corn and barley estimates due to dry weather. However, rapeseed and sunflower crop forecasts were slightly raised, while wheat export projections remained unchanged at 29.65 million tonnes.

The European Commission has lowered its forecast for EU wheat production in the coming season by 400,000 tons to 126.9 million tonnes, down from the 127.3 million tonnes forecast a month ago and the 135 million tonnes harvested a year earlier, Reuters reports.

The export forecast remained unchanged from the previous month’s estimate of 29.65 million tonnes.

The corn production forecast was also lowered to 60.35 million tonnes, down from the 61.2 million tonnes forecast last month. Barley production was also lowered, to 51.75 million tonnes, down from the 52.9 million tonnes forecast in April.

However, production forecasts for key oilseeds were increased slightly. The rapeseed harvest in the 2026/27 season is expected to reach 20.85 million tonnes, above the 20.8 million tonnes forecast last month and above the current season’s result (20.2 million tonnes). The sunflower harvest next season will total 8.9 million tonnes, compared to 8.8 million tonnes forecast in April and 8.7 million tonnes in 2025/26.

The European Crop Monitoring Service (MARS) also revised downward most of its EU grain yield forecasts yesterday due to dry conditions in several regions of the union.
