Fiji Sugar Corporation announces $42 per tonne cane payment for farmers

Fiji Sugar Corporation confirmed sugarcane farmers will receive a delivery cane price of $42 per tonne for the current season. Farmers will initially get $34.44 per tonne, followed by a $7.56 top-up payment, based on the forecast 2026 cane price of $57.40 per tonne.

Fiji Sugar Corporation has confirmed that sugarcane farmers will receive a delivery cane price of $42 per tonne for the current season following the announcement of a forecast cane price of $57.40 per tonne for the 2026 season.

In a statement, the corporation said the initial payment for cane supplied during the 2026 season will be $34.44 per tonne. This amount represents 60% of the forecast cane price, in line with provisions under the Sugar Industry Tribunal Master Award, Fijivillage reported.

Farmers will later receive an additional top-up payment of $7.56 per tonne, taking the total delivery cane price to $42 per tonne.

The corporation said the forecast cane price of $57.40 per tonne was determined according to the guidelines set out in the Sugar Industry Tribunal Master Award after the tribunal was informed of the estimates used in calculating the forecast.
