Russian wheat harvest may exceed 91 mln tons – forecast

Institute for Agricultural Market Studies raised its 2026 Russian wheat crop forecast by 1.5 million tonnes to 91.5 million tonnes and total grain output by 3 million tonnes to 142.5 million tonnes. Wheat exports are projected at 47.5 million tonnes, though analysts caution that significant harvest and export risks remain.

The Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) has raised its forecast for Russia’s wheat crop this year by 1.5 mln tons from the previous estimate to 91.5 mln tons, said IKAR CEO Dmitry Rylko, Interfax reported.

According to him, wheat output in the “Greater South” regions (Southern and North Caucasian federal districts) is estimated at 38 mln tons, compared with 31 mln tons a year earlier.

IKAR also lifted its forecast for total Russian grain output by 3 mln tons to 142.5 mln tons.

Rylko noted that the “Greater South” accounts for 70-75% of Russia’s wheat exports. IKAR currently estimates Russia’s wheat export potential in the 2026/27 MY at 47.5 mln tons, while total grain exports are seen at 63.7 mln tons.

“However, there are still many risks ahead for the upcoming harvest and, consequently, exports,” the analyst said.
