India approved record MSP procurement of pulses and oilseeds worth over INR 11,698 crore for Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka under the Price Support Scheme. Covering chickpeas, lentils, mustard, and safflower, the initiative aims to protect farmers, stabilize markets, and strengthen food security.
At 13:26 on June 24, 2026, India’s Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved proposals from state governments for record-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds in the Rabi 2025/26 season at Minimum Support Prices (MSP). The procurement will cover the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka.
The programs will be implemented under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and aim to protect farmers from forced distress sales at low market prices. The government will purchase key crops including chickpeas, lentils, mustard, and safflower through structured state-backed procurement operations.
The total value of approved purchases exceeds INR 11,698 crore (approximately USD 1.41 billion). According to the ministry, the initiative is designed to ensure fair remuneration for farmers, prevent distress selling, and strengthen the country’s food and nutritional security.
The scheme is expected to benefit hundreds of thousands of farming households across the three states, while also improving market stability for pulses and oilseeds and reinforcing India’s domestic agricultural procurement system.
