Brazil’s ethanol production continues to trend higher in late May: UNICA

Brazil’s south-central region produced 2.13 billion liters of ethanol in late May despite lower sugarcane processing. Corn ethanol output rose 12.38% to 413.2 million liters. Since April, total ethanol production reached 7.54 billion liters, up 31.55% year-on-year.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced ethanol production was up during the second half of May despite a decrease in the volume of sugarcane processed. Corn ethanol production continued to expand.

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 41.55 million tons of sugarcane during the second half of May, down 13.08% when compared to the same period of last year. Sugarcane processing since the start of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 144.71 million tons.

According to UNICA, 250 ethanol production units were operating during the second half of May, including 231 units that process sugarcane, 10 that process corn and nine facilities that can manufacture ethanol from both feedstocks.

Ethanol production reached 2.13 billion liters (562.69 million gallons) of ethanol during the second half of May. Production included 1.33 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 8.32%, and 793 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 1.19%. Corn ethanol accounted for 413.2 million liters of production, up 12.38% when compared to the same period of last year.

Total ethanol productions since the start of the current harvest season reached 7.54 billion liters, up 31.55%. Production included 4.96 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 29%, and 2.58 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol production, up 36.73%. Corn ethanol accounted for 1.57 billion liters of production, up 8.63%.

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil sold 2.88 billion liters of ethanol in May, including 1.09 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol and 1.79 billion liters of hydrous ethanol.

Total ethanol sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 5.66 billion liters, including 3.55 billion liters of hydrous ethanol and 2.11 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol.
