EU reduced grain imports by 18% this season

EU grain and grain product imports fell 18% year-on-year to 24.99 million tonnes during the first 51 weeks of 2025/26. Soft wheat imports dropped 48%, corn declined 8%, while sorghum imports surged 446%. Canada remained the leading wheat supplier and Ukraine led corn exports.

During the fifty-one weeks of the current season, which began on July 1, 2025, EU countries imported 24.99 mln tons of grain and grain products, 18% less than during the same period in the 2024/2025 season, according to the Zerno On-Line agency, citing the European Commission.

Canada is the leading supplier of wheat to the EU this season. Since the beginning of the season, Canada has exported 1.347 mln tons of soft wheat and 1.092 mln tons of durum wheat.

The EU imports barley and bakery flour primarily from the UK (0.37 mln tons and 0.13 mln tons).

Corn is imported from Ukraine (8.19 mln tons), the US (5.57 mln tons), and Brazil (3 mln tons).

Almost all imported sorghum originates in the US (0.58 mln tons).
