Nepal : 58 percent paddy plantation in Gorkha

Paddy transplantation in Nepal’s district has reached 58% of the 10,500-hectare target, up from 45% by mid-July last year. Authorities expect 95% coverage if favourable monsoon conditions continue, with major cultivation concentrated in key lowland and northern hilly farming areas.Pa

With the monsoon getting active in recent days, the paddy plantation has gained pace in district. The District Agriculture Development Office informed that the district so far recorded 58 percent of paddy plantation.

Paddy plantation has been aimed in 10,500 hectares of land for this year.

Information officer at the Office, Suman Bhattarai, informed that it was only 45 percent paddy plantation till mid July in the last fiscal year. If the weather becomes favourable, the cultivation for this year will be over within few days.

The Office has estimated 95 percent paddy plantation.

Major areas for the rice production in the district are Daraudi, Sirdiphant, Sheraphant, Jyadulphant, Tariphant, Darubungphant and Borlangphant. The hilly and upper hilly areas including Chumnumbri in the northern belt of the district also cultivate rice.
