Ukraine harvests more than 3.1 mln tons of new-crop grain

Ukraine has harvested 3.1 million tonnes of early grains and pulses from 763,000 hectares (6% of the forecast area), led by barley and wheat. Odesa tops production, while rapeseed harvesting has begun, with weather expected to influence harvest progress in the coming weeks.

Ukrainian farmers have begun harvesting early grains and pulses across all regions of the country. As of July 14, 763 thsd ha had been harvested, representing 6% of the forecast area, with total new-crop grain production already exceeding 3.1 mln tons.

Barley accounts for the largest share of the harvest so far, with 1.84 mln tons collected from 417.7 thsd ha at an average yield of 4.41 t/ha. Wheat production has reached 1.11 mln tons from 280.7 thsd ha with an average yield of 3.96 t/ha, while 156.4 thsd tons of peas have been harvested from 64.6 thsd ha, yielding 2.42 t/ha.

Odesa region currently leads the harvest with more than 1 mln tons of grain collected, followed by Mykolaiv region with 805.1 thsd tons and Dnipropetrovsk region with 567.3 thsd tons.

At the same time, Ukraine continues harvesting rapeseed, the first oilseed crop of the new season. Farmers have harvested 77 thsd ha, producing 149.1 thsd tons at an average yield of 1.94 t/ha.

Although the harvest campaign has started relatively slowly, crop yields remain at a solid level. The pace of harvesting in the coming weeks will largely depend on weather conditions, as rainfall in some regions may slow field operations.
