Ethanol supply at around 718 crore litres in ESY 2025-26, Grain-based feedstock maintains the lead
India’s ethanol supplies reached 718 crore litres by 30 June, achieving 83% of contracted Q1–Q3 volumes. Grain-based feedstocks led with 480 crore litres, including 258 crore litres from maize, while sugarcane-based ethanol contributed 238 crore litres, highlighting successful feedstock diversification for the ethanol blending programme.
As on 30th June, the total ethanol supplies have reached approximately 718 crore litres, achieving about 83% of the contracted quantity for the first three quarters (Q1-Q3).
Grain-based feedstocks emerged as the largest contributor, accounting for about 480 crore litres, or 82% of the contracted 587 crore litres.
Maize remained the single largest contributor, supplying about 258 crore litres, achieving about 86% of its contracted volume of 301 crore litres.
Surplus Foodgrains (SFG) contributed about 177 crore litres, with a fulfilment rate of about 76%. Damaged Food Grains (DFG) supplied about 45 crore litres, achieving about 85% of contracted volumes.
Sugarcane-based ethanol supplied about 238 crore litres, representing about 87% of the contracted 275 crore litres.
Sugarcane juice (SCJ) accounted for about 144 crore litres, achieving the highest fulfilment rate among major feedstocks at about 89%. B-heavy molasses (BHM) supplied about 82 crore litres, achieving about 85% of contracted quantities.
C-heavy molasses (CHM) contributed about 12 crore litres, fulfilling about 75% of contracts.
The strong contribution from maize as an ethanol feedstock alongside sugarcane-based feedstocks reflects the government’s strategy of diversifying raw materials for ethanol production, reducing dependence on any single feedstock while ensuring year-round supplies.
