Kazakhstan earns record $944 mln from vegetable oil and meal exports
Kazakhstan earned a record US$944 million from vegetable oil and oilseed meal exports in the first nine months of MY2025/26, up 54% year-on-year. The country is expanding processing capacity to 8 million tonnes by 2028 while strengthening exports to Uzbekistan and targeting global sunflower oil leadership.
Kazakhstan generated a record $944 mln in export revenue from vegetable oils and oilseed meals during the first nine months of the MY 2025/26, up 54% from the same period a year earlier. According to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, total export revenue is expected to exceed $1.15 bln by the end of the marketing year.
The National Association of Oilseed Processors reported that exports of Kazakhstan’s vegetable oil products to Uzbekistan have expanded steadily over the past five marketing seasons. The trend was highlighted during a trade and export cooperation session held in Aktau as part of the first Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan Council of Regional Leaders meeting.
Kazakhstan’s oilseed processing capacity currently exceeds 5.2 mln tons per year, including 4.4 mln tons of sunflower processing capacity. This is around 700,000 tons higher than Uzbekistan’s processing capacity. With new plants scheduled to come online, Kazakhstan aims to increase total processing capacity to 8 mln tons annually by 2028.
Kazakhstan has remained Uzbekistan’s largest supplier of vegetable oils for the second consecutive year, accounting for more than 90% of the market. During the first nine months of the 2025/26 marketing year, exports of vegetable oils and meals to Uzbekistan increased by 31% to 553,000 tons. The country also fully supplies Central Asian markets with sunflower meal.
Kazakhstan currently ranks as the world’s sixth-largest exporter of sunflower oil and aims to become one of the top three global exporters while increasing annual export revenue from the sector to $2 bln. During the forum, commercial agreements worth $174.8 mln were signed, including a $71.5 mln contract between Qazaq-Astyq Group and Uzbekistan’s Fayz Oil Imports for vegetable oil supplies.
