22.50 LMT monthly sugar quota released for August 2026; same as August 2025
In an announcement on July 28, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22.50 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for August 2026, which is equal to the quota allocated for August 2025 but higher than the quota allocated for August 2024.
In August 2025, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22.50 LMT for domestic sale. For July 2026, the allocation of sugar quota was also 22 LMT.
According to market experts, sugar prices rose in July and are likely to remain stable in August considering the rainy season and government’s regulations regarding the sugar quota. As number of festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Krishna Janmashtami fall in August along with Shravan, the government has to take steps to ensure that prices remain under control, said experts.
