India: Rice vessel line-up crosses 1 mnt; African markets continue to dominate exports
India’s rice vessel line-up totals 1.19 million tonnes, led by Benin (390,765 tonnes), followed by Iran. Kandla and Kakinada remain key loading ports, while African markets dominate demand, supporting strong near-term export activity across multiple destinations and exporters.
India’s rice vessel line-up stood at 1,192,025 tonnes (t), with cargo scheduled across major loading ports, including Kandla, Kakinada, Chennai and Vizag. The shipment programme comprises 5% parboiled (PB) rice and bagged rice, with exports handled by major exporters such as LDC, Adani Wilmar, Balaji Agro Industries, Olam Agri India Private Limited, Moi Commodities, Raviraj Rice Industries, Manek Rathi Agri Products, Ananta Rice Products, Pacific International, and several other exporters. Benin remained the largest listed destination in the current vessel programme.
Benin accounts for nearly one-third of scheduled shipments; Iran ranks second
Benin accounted for the highest scheduled shipment volume at 390,765 t, with cargo scheduled from Kandla, Chennai, and Kakinada. The consignments comprise 5% PB rice and bagged rice. Iran ranked second with 54,450 t of bagged rice scheduled from Kandla.
Further scheduled shipments include:
- Ivory Coast: 50,000 t of 5% PB rice from Kakinada
- Guinea: 44,000 t of 5% PB rice from Kakinada
- Mozambique: 37,332 t of bagged rice from Kandla
- Yemen: 31,740 t of bagged rice from Kandla
- Nigeria: 15,900 t of 5% PB rice from Kakinada
‘Others’ category accounts for over 567,000 t of scheduled exports
Apart from the listed destinations, the ‘Others’ category represents the largest share of the vessel line-up, with 567,838 t scheduled for shipment through Vizag, Kakinada and Kandla.
The cargo comprises 5% parboiled (PB) rice and bagged rice. The category accounts for nearly half of the total scheduled vessel line-up, highlighting the broad distribution of Indian rice exports across multiple overseas markets.
Kandla emerges as key loading port in current vessel programme
Port-wise scheduling indicates Kandla remains the principal loading port, handling shipments to Benin, Iran, Mozambique, Yemen and part of the cargo under the ‘Others’ category.
Kakinada continues to play a significant role with scheduled cargo for Benin, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Nigeria and the ‘Others’ category, while Chennai is scheduled to load cargo for Benin. Vizag also contributes to shipments classified under ‘Others’.
Outlook
The latest vessel line-up highlights continuous demand from African markets, with Benin maintaining its position as India’s largest listed rice export destination. Steady shipments to Iran, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mozambique, Yemen and Nigeria further reflect diversified export demand. With 1,192,025 t of rice scheduled for shipment through major ports led by Kandla and Kakinada, India’s rice export activity is expected to remain active in the near term, supported by participation from a broad base of exporters.
