13 LMT sugar quota fixed for first fortnight of September 2026

The Food Ministry has fixed India’s sugar sales quota at 13 LMT for September 1–15, 2026, marking the first fortnightly allocation after replacing the monthly system. The quota covers sugar mills and port refineries and aims to ensure adequate domestic availability while stabilising prices.

New Delhi: The Food Ministry on August 30 has fixed the domestic sugar sales quota at 13 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for the first fortnight of September 2026.

This is the first quota announced by the government after taking decision to allocate fortnightly quota from existing monthly quota system. It includes all the sugar mills and refinery (Port) stocks.

The quota will be applicable from September 1 to September 15, 2026,  according to the latest allocation.

For August 2026, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22.50 LMT, the same as the allocation for August 2025. The quota for July 2026 was fixed at 22 LMT.

The fortnightly allocation for September comes as the government continues to regulate sugar availability in the domestic market through periodic sales quotas.

The quota mechanism is aimed at ensuring adequate sugar availability and preventing sharp fluctuations in domestic prices. Market conditions and demand will remain key factors in determining sugar prices during September.
