Uzbekistan interested in buying 500 thsd tons of Russian wheat via the Caspian Sea
Uzbekistan is considering importing 500,000 tonnes of wheat from Russia via the Caspian Sea in 2026, using Astrakhan and Makhachkala ports. The countries also discussed agricultural projects, including dairy production and annual supplies of 7,000 Holstein cattle.
Uzbekistan is interested in importing 500 thsd tons of wheat from Russia via the Caspian Sea in 2026. The possibility of such shipments was discussed by representatives of the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Russia’s Steppe agricultural holding.
The parties considered organizing logistics routes through the ports of Astrakhan and Makhachkala. The interest in supplies is linked to Russia’s large grain crop this year and the potential to expand trade through the Caspian route.
If implemented, the Caspian Sea could become another channel for Russian wheat supplies to Central Asia. For Russian exporters, this would also mean further diversification of routes amid the growing role of alternative logistics.
The parties also discussed potential joint projects in Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector, including the localization of dairy and confectionery production.
A separate proposal envisages annual supplies of 7 thsd head of Holstein breeding cattle to Uzbekistan. The parties agreed to continue working on specific mechanisms for implementing these projects.
