New Delhi: The Department of Food and Public Distribution has set today, September 18, 2026, as the deadline for sugar mills to submit their complete first-fortnight sales data. Mills across the country have been instructed to submit complete sale details for the period up to September 15, 2026, in the prescribed format through their registered email ID via a designated Google form link. This follows the broader compliance push under the government’s fortnightly quota system, with mills also required to report opening stock, production, dispatch, release and closing stock for the fortnight, and to ensure sugar sold is dispatched within seven days of sale.
The stakes for non-compliance are significant. The order has cautioned that mills failing to comply may not be allocated any release for October 2026. Separately, industry sources have indicated that non-compliance with the DFPD’s quota directions more broadly could invite action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, with mills required to lift sugar strictly as per the quantities specified in their release orders and any deviation treated as a violation. Dispatch records are also under scrutiny, with GST bills to be cross-checked during a special joint inspection drive by central and state authorities.
Millers are also reminded of the parallel dealer-registration mandate now in force. The government has directed all sugar mills to sell only to dealers registered on the DFPD portal with effect from September 15, 2026, and to ensure dealers declare their stock position every Friday, verifying registration status using the dealer’s PAN or email ID. With inspections and quota allocations tied directly to accurate, timely reporting, industry stakeholders would do well to treat today’s deadline as a firm compliance checkpoint rather than a formality.
