Ethanol saves 54 thousand crores of foreign exchange
Use of biofuels in the country has become the need of the hour to reduce dependence on imported fuels. At present, 11 percent of the total fuel used in the country is ethanol blended. Due to this usage, the country has so far saved about 54 thousand crores of foreign exchange.
Last two years, 433 crore liters of ethanol was consumed in the country. Therefore, carbon emissions have been reduced by 318 lakh tonnes in the last eight years.
The central and state governments are taking positive steps to increase the use of biofuels, and the government is trying to increase the proportion of ethanol in the total fuel consumption to 20 percent by 2025.
Praj Industries has recently started a project to produce ethanol from rice straw at Panipat in Haryana. Also, Indian Oil has started an experiment to use ethanol in aviation fuel in collaboration with Praj. In 2025, if 1 percent biofuel is used in aviation fuel, about 14 crore liters of ethanol will be required. If the same ratio is increased to 5 percent, about 70 crore liters of ethanol will have to be produced in the country.- Dr. Pramod Chaudhary, President, Praj Industries, Pune

Ethanol from sugarcane juice
■ In order to increase the use of bio-fuel, private companies have also taken their share of technology, Praj Industries in Pune has recently implemented a pilot project to produce ethanol from sugarcane juice.
■ Accordingly, currently four to five in the stateSugar factoryThe President of Praj informed that he is working on this project. Pramod Chowdhury gave this while talking to ‘Lokmat’.
■ Ethanol is being produced directly from sugarcane juice without producing ethanol from sugarcane. Due to this, the cost of sugar factories has been saved and their efficiency as well as days of sieving have also increased. Chowdhury also mentioned that it has directly affected the increase in employment.
