Sugarcane Season: This year sugarcane season is after Diwali
Kolhapur News : Since sugarcane production is expected to decrease this year, it is expected that the season will start late this year. After mid-November, the state can see the rapids. No factory has yet demanded an early start of the season. Sources in the sugar industry say that due to this, sugarcane crushing in the state will start late this year.
On behalf of the Sugar Commissionerate, estimates are being made regarding the sugarcane area and potential production in the state. The decision to start the season will be taken in the meeting of the ministerial committee. Compared to last year, there is not much growth in the sugarcane sector this year. This year, the real concern is the decrease in production. Although sugarcane is visible in Shivara, it is not possible to guarantee the amount of production that will come out of it.
It is likely that the prediction of decline in production predicted by the national level organizations will come true considering the condition of sugarcane plantations. The districts of western Maharashtra which have abundant water supply are also thirsty for water. As water is decreasing in districts like Sangli, the time has come for the administration to release water from Koyna Dam.
Districts which are famous for sugarcane also suffer from water scarcity. In particular, sugarcane is likely to get a big hit as two and a half months of the rainy season have been dry except for the fifteen days of July.
Along with western Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada have also been disappointed by the rains of the sugarcane growers . It is not possible to predict how much production will decrease due to this.
At present, the agricultural departments of all the sugar mills are in a mess of planning. But in most places there is concern about production decline. Humani, Tambera, etc. diseases are getting affected due to hot cloudy weather. In addition to the already water scarcity, the sugarcane plantation is in danger due to pest infestation. In this background, the weight loss of sugarcane is considered certain.
Favorable to start the factory season late
Many factories insist on starting the season only after mid-November. If the season is started early, the young sugarcane is cut, it does not benefit anyone as the recovery and weight of this sugarcane is low.
Due to this, the factories are in the mindset of starting the season only after Diwali. Laborers are also willing to come after Diwali. Many mills are expecting the season to start in late November itself as the cold weather in November increases the sugar output.
