In a move toward advancing agro-industrial development in East Africa, India-based Spray Engineering Devices Limited (SEDL) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Burundi for the establishment of a 1,000 TCD (tonnes of cane per day) sugarcane processing plant in the country.
The agreement is a key step forward in Burundi’s efforts to strengthen its agricultural sector and build sustainable industrial capacity. The upcoming plant will feature state-of-the-art technology aimed at improving efficiency and maximizing resource use, aligning with both national development priorities and global sustainability goals.
This collaboration is a shared commitment to advancing sustainable industrial development, strengthening local agriculture, and contributing to Burundi’s long-term economic growth.
The MoU outlines joint responsibilities in key areas including investment mobilization, infrastructure development, local workforce engagement, and project implementation.
Dhatu Group Limited will lead project supervision and construction management, and Ravi Enterprises will oversee project execution and operational management.
The project is expected to generate employment, stimulate rural economies, and boost Burundi’s self-sufficiency in sugar production—potentially reducing its reliance on imports and improving food security.
