After harvesting wheat in Bageshwar of Uttarakhand, farmers can earn good profits by growing maize crop. Maize gets ready in 60 days and gives more profit at less cost.
Bageshwar: Wheat harvesting is in full swing these days in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand. In areas like Bageshwar, the wheat crop is completely harvested by the end of April. After this, farmers usually plant paddy in June and July, but by making proper use of the free time in between, farmers can earn good profits. For this, maize crop can prove to be an excellent option. Maize is such a crop, which gets ready in just 60 days i.e. about two months.
Low cost, high profit
Bageshwar’s environmentalist Kishan Malda told Local 18 that if maize is sown immediately after wheat harvesting, then the entire crop can be harvested from the field before paddy transplantation. This crop not only saves time, but also reduces cost and gives good profit. The special thing is that during the rainy season, the demand for maize is very high in the market, due to which it gets good prices.
For good yield, it is important that maize is sown in the right way. First of all, plow the field well and add organic manure to it. Mountain organic manure is considered most suitable for this work, which helps in increasing the fertility of the soil as well as the growth of plants.
Plant the seeds in this way.
Corn seeds should be sown in beds or straight lines. Plant the seeds one by one and keep a distance of about one palm between each plant. This gives the plants enough space to grow and every plant produces good grains. If the seeds are sown by sprinkling, many plants can grow at one place, due to which they can get entangled and the yield can be reduced.
Corn crop does not require much water, but moisture is necessary in the beginning. Therefore, if it is not raining, do light irrigation. Keep weeding from time to time, so that insects and weeds do not attack the crop. If farmers grow corn with this method, they can earn a good income even before paddy cultivation begins. This corn crop saves both time and labor and provides an excellent source of additional income to the farmers.
