Agri dept projects kharif crops on 20 lakh ha in 4 N. Maha dists
Nashik’s agriculture department projects kharif crop cultivation on 20.3 lakh hectares in Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar districts. Major crops include maize, soyabean, cotton, and paddy. Cotton covers 9.48 lakh hectares, while maize is cultivated on 4.12 lakh hectares. Paddy plantations span 1.24 lakh hectares. Fertiliser availability stands at 4.66 lakh tonnes out of 7.47 lakh tonnes required. Additionally, 2.64 lakh quintals of seeds are needed for kharif crops in the region.
Nashik: The state agriculture department’s Nashik divisional officer has projected kharif crop cultivation on 20.3 lakh hectares of land in Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar districts.
The kharif crop majorly includes maize, soyabean, moong, tur, cotton, bajra, urid, and paddy in the North Maharashtra region.
Of the 20.25 lakh hectares of kharif cop land, 7.49 lakh hectares have been projected in Jalgaon district, 6.41 lakh hectares in Nashik district, 3.80 lakh hectares in Dhule, and 2.53 lakh hectares in Nandurbar district.
One of the major crops, cotton, is sown on around 9.48 lakh hectares in the region, with over 5.58 lakh hectares in only Jalgaon district, followed by 2.20 lakh hectares in Dhule, 1.31 lakh hectares in Nandurbar, and 39,500 hectares in Nashik district.
The second major crop in the North Maharashtra region is maize. Maize cultivation is projected on 4.12 lakh hectares in the region, comprising 2.42 lakh hectares in Nashik district alone, followed by 98,000 hectares in Jalgaon district, 67,700 hectares in Dhule district, and 4,975 hectares in Nandurbar district.
The agriculture department has projected paddy plantations on 1.24 lakh hectares in three districts of North Maharashtra, comprising 94,000 hectares in Nashik district, 24,500 hectares in Nandurbar district, and 5,500 hectares in Dhule district.
The agriculture department officials said out of the required 7.47 lakh tonne fertilisers for the districts, 4.66 lakh tonne was available till date. The remaining stock will be made available soon.
Moreover, the region will also need 2.64 lakh quintal of seeds for kharif crops.
