Phulumbri – Kharif season has remained the same for three consecutive years in the taluk due to the changed pattern of rainfall. This year too, all the crops in Shetshiwar have failed as the rain has turned its back for about fifteen days. It has become difficult for crops to survive on the drizzling rains.
As the crops of this year’s kharif season have been dried by the sun, the crops have started to harvest. The forest was scorched by the sun… God burnt Shivar…! Farmers have started calling for this. Therefore, the farmers of the taluka are still waiting for heavy rains.
This year, due to the late arrival of rains, the farmers are in trouble due to lack of heavy rains even after sowing in the last week of June.
Even after sowing, the rains have turned their backs again, so now all the crops in the standing fields are getting burnt. The crops of Maize, Cotton, Soybean, Udid, Moong and Maize have been completely damaged and there is hardly any possibility of production. Kharif crop has been cultivated on an area of about 56 thousand hectares in the taluka.
The growth of maize and cotton in the dryland areas of the talukas is completely stunted. In the taluka, Pirbavda, Vadod Bazar, Aland and Phulumbri are the most affected revenue boards. The farmers of Dogri region are also afraid that the kharif season will be completely wasted.
Declare a drought
Crops in 57 thousand hectares of the taluka are in danger due to lack of rain. Since the last two months, no heavy rain has fallen in Phulumbri taluk after the planting of kharif crops. Wells, rivers, drains in the taluk have dried up. Due to this, there is a possibility of decrease in production. As a result, farmers in the taluka are demanding to declare drought.
