Algeria bids for 240,000 t corn that was likely missed in the previous tender

Algeria’s ONAB has issued a new tender to purchase up to 240,000 metric tons of animal feed corn from optional origins, with bids due June 24. The move follows a likely failure to secure deals in a previous 244,000-ton tender. Traders view these repeated tenders more as price discovery exercises, with six consignments scheduled for mid-to-late July shipment.

European traders reported on Monday that the Algerian state agency ONAB had issued a tender for a new international purchase of up to 240.000 metric tons animal feed corn from optional origins.

They said that the deadline for submitting price offers to the tender is Tuesday 24th June.

According to the report, it is believed that this new announcement indicates that Algerians did not make any significant purchases in its previous tender for 244,000 tons of corn, which ended on June 19.

Algeria held corn tenders every week in May and June, but the trading houses were said to be very few. Traders say that they view the repeated corn tenders not as an indication of actual demand but rather as a price check.

Traders said that the latest tender sought six consignments between 30,000 and 40,000 tons to be shipped between July 15-31. Michael Hogan reports.
