Almora: The ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan in Almora developed three new varieties of maize to enhance crop yield and improve nutritional content, particularly in northern hilly regions of India.
The institute’s director, Lakshmi Kant, said these new varieties are characterised by early maturity, high yield potential, and superior nutritional quality.“We have recommended release of these three varieties for northern hilly regions, where they will play a crucial role in boosting agricultural productivity. With these varieties, we aim to provide a solution that is economically viable and nutritionally superior,” he said.
Higher yield potential will provide a significant economic advantage to farmers and enhanced nutritional profile will contribute to better health for consumers. The three varieties are VL Shikhar, VL Triposhi, and VL Poshika.
