Argentina doubled sunflower oil exports in January.
Argentina sharply cut soybean product exports in January 2026 due to weaker processing, while sunflower exports surged. Sunflower oil shipments doubled to 100,000 tonnes and meal rose to 150,000–160,000 tonnes. Analysts expect Argentina’s sunflower oil market share to strengthen further as processing peaks and new plants start in 2026.
In January 2026, Argentina significantly reduced its exports of soybean products due to a decline in processing, but doubled its exports of sunflower oil and meal, Oil World (Germany) reports.
Sunflower oil exports doubled compared to the same period last year, reaching 100,000 tons. Meal shipments increased to 150,000-160,000 tons (compared to 105,000 tons in January 2025).
Sunflower seed exports totaled approximately 100,000 tons. Key sales destinations included South Africa and the Black Sea region.
Meanwhile, the soybean complex is declining, with soybean oil exports from Argentina falling to 460,000-480,000 tons, compared to 562,000 tons the previous month and 502,000 tons in the same month a year earlier. Soybean meal exports also declined, to 1.95-2 million tons, compared to 2.05 million tons the previous month and 2.22 million tons in January 2025.
Analysts predict Argentina’s position in the global sunflower oil market will further strengthen in the coming months. Sunflower processing in the country traditionally peaks in February and March, and new processing plants are scheduled to begin operations in April 2026, enabling peak production and exports.
