Assam Govt Launches 50% Subsidy Scheme on Farm Equipment to Boost Crop Yield, Cut Losses
GUWAHATI: The Assam Agriculture Department has launched a scheme under the National Food Security Mission and Oil Palm Mission, offering 50% subsidy on advanced farming machinery for paddy and pulses. Farmers, FPOs, and FPCs are encouraged to apply early. This move aims to boost productivity and reduce manual labor and post-harvest losses statewide.
GUWAHATI: In a significant move to increase agricultural productivity and reduce post-harvest losses, the Assam Government’s Agriculture Department has launched a new initiative under the National Food Security Mission and the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm.
The scheme aims to provide advanced agricultural machinery for the cultivation of crops like paddy and pulses at a 50% subsidy. This move is expected to empower farmers with better technology and reduce manual dependency, ensuring more efficient farming practices across the state.
Farmers, alongside agri-entrepreneurs and entities such as Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), should visit the Agriculture Department’s office to submit their applications for subsidised equipment.
The processing of applications will occur according to the order of their arrival, where initial submissions receive priority. The department has urged interested parties to apply promptly to take advantage of this opportunity to modernise their farming operations and improve yields.
Meanwhile, Dhubri launches “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan” to empower farmers ahead of the Kharif season earlier in May. This awareness and outreach campaign was initiated by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
Similarly, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu distributed 15 tractors, 18 power tillers, power weeders, and paddy threshers to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at an ITDP programme in Dhemaji, which was conducted in February this year.
