Assam: State Cabinet Takes Several Decisions, Land Allotment for Oil Palm Cultivation


The Assam Cabinet approved key decisions, including renaming Mangaldai Stadium and Sarusajai Sports Complex, and upgrading skill institutes with Rs 250 crore support. It also allotted land for a ₹6,000-crore pumped storage project in Karbi Anglong and relaxed land norms for oil palm cultivation under the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm.
Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet took several decisions on Wednesday, the chief among which are the renaming of stadiums, providing a boost to skill education and land allotment for oil palm cultivation.
The cabinet approved the allotment of land by APDCL to Greenko Energies for the development of a Rs 6,000-crore 900 MW Off-stream Pumped Storage Project in Tharakuchi in Karbi Anglong. Regarding this, an MoU was signed during Advantage Assam 2.0.
The cabinet also decided on the renaming of stadiums and SIRD to honour the stalwarts of Assam. Mangaldai Stadium is to be renamed as Raja Dharmanarayan Stadium, and Sarusajai Sports Complex is to be renamed as Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex.
The State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development (SIRD) is to be renamed as the Golap Borbora State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development, in honour of the former Assam chief minister.
To boost skill education, the cabinet has approved seeking Rs 250 crore assistance for the upgradation of 34 polytechnics and 43 government IITs into Centres of Excellence, in collaboration with Tata Technology Ltd.
The cabinet also approved relaxation in admissible categories of land for cultivation of oil palm under the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm.
