Australia could increase wheat exports to 25 mln tons next season
Heavy July rains have boosted the grain crop outlook in Australia after a dry start to the season, according to the FAS USDA. Wheat production in 2025/26 is forecast at 31 million tons, and barley at 13 million. Wheat exports may rise, while barley exports could dip due to lower stocks.
Heavy rains in the first two weeks of July have improved the outlook for grain crops in Australia, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture (FAS USDA).
The current planting campaign in Australia began under difficult conditions. In the southern grain-growing regions, soil moisture was low and the amount of rainfall during the planting season was below average. The July rains, combined with a favorable forecast for rainfall in the coming months, give hope that yields will be close to average.
According to FAS USDA forecasts, the gross harvest of Australian wheat in the 2025/2026 season will be 31.0 million tons (34.11 million tons in the current season), barley – 13.0 (13.265) million tons.
Higher carryover stocks will contribute to an increase in wheat exports next season to 25.0 (23.0) million tons.
The volume of barley exports may decrease to 6.5 (7.5 million tons) due to active exports in the current season, which will lead to a decrease in carryover stocks and limit the barley resources available for export.
The new wheat and barley crops will be harvested in October-December.
