Australia ships 1.98Mt August wheat, down 13pc from July

Australia exported 1,975,833 tonnes of wheat, including durum, in August 2025, down 13% from July due to Northern Hemisphere new crop competition. Major bulk buyers were the Philippines (415,570t), Indonesia (290,239t), and South Korea (166,100t). Containerised exports went mainly to Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan. Total exports for June–August reached 6.2 million tonnes.

Australia exports 1,975,833 tonnes of wheat, including durum, in August, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The figure is down 13 percent from 2,271,711t shipped in July to reflect competition from Northern Hemisphere new crop.

In August 2024, Australia’s wheat and durum exports totalled 1,201,610t.

In containerised sales, Thailand on 23,883t, Malaysia on 23,030t, and Taiwan on 21,350t were the biggest markets for August-shipped wheat

The Philippines on 415,570t continued its uptrend of wheat imports from Australia to be the biggest bulk customer for August, followed by Indonesia on 290,239t, and South Korea on 166,100t.

In its latest wheat supply-and-demand report released October 1, Lachstock Consulting said Northern Hemisphere harvest pressure has extended as Russian and EU exports run slowly, overlapping more directly with Australian new crop.

“Importers in North Africa and Asia remain active, but with Black Sea supply delayed, timing rather than outright supply is the key swing factor,” the report said.

According to Lachstock’s mid-September Australian Export Vessel Line-ups report, September as the last month of the Australian shipping year was expected to see 1.93 million tonnes of bulk wheat shipped.
