Bajaj Auto is accelerating its efforts in alternative fuel options, developing a new CNG motorcycle targeted at the entry-level commuter segment. Emphasizing clean and renewable energy, the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer also intends to display ethanol-powered two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Rajiv Bajaj, CEO of Bajaj Auto, confirmed in a CNBC-TV18 interview that the company plans to broaden its CNG range following the launch of the Freedom 125 CNG in July of this year.

New CNG motorcycle

During the launch of the Freedom 125 CNG, Bajaj Auto announced its intention to expand the CNG motorcycle range, targeting the 100cc segment. Although the Hero Splendor remains dominant in this entry-level commuter category, Bajaj is poised to challenge with its own 100cc CNG motorcycle. Considering the Splendor+ is priced from Rs 75,441, ex-showroom, Bajaj’s new 100cc CNG model will need competitive pricing to significantly penetrate this market segment. As of now, Bajaj Auto has not disclosed a launch timeline for this motorcycle.

Ethanol vehicles

Rajiv Bajaj confirmed that the company will unveil the ethanol vehicles lineup next month in Delhi. Bajaj Auto will showcase both two-wheelers and three-wheelers and launch them in this financial year. The CEO of Bajaj further stated that the company is close to achieving monthly sales of 1 lakh clean energy units by this festival season.
